A number of middle school and high school students are currently being given the opportunity to spend a day in various workplace environments for career planning purposes. Several university programs require a certain number of hours of observation or volunteer hours to apply for admissions into a particular program. For observation requirements which do not exceed 40 hours, the Job Shadow program is available to students 14 years of age and up. Job shadowing is for observation purposes only and cannot be used as community service hours.
If you wish to obtain more than 40 hours of observation time, please contact the Volunteer Services Coordinator at 731-541-6189 or e-mail donna.williams@wth.org.
To be a part of the Job Shadow program, you must complete the following process:
- Print and complete the West Tennessee Healthcare Job Shadow Application
- Read the West Tennessee Healthcare Management Guidebook Policy #7577
- Print and complete the Confidentiality Acknowledgement
- View the "Keep It To Yourself!" (Protecting Patient Confidentiality) module
- Read The HIPAA (Health Information Portability and Accountability Act) Privacy Rule review sheet
- Print and complete the HIPAA Privacy Rule Quiz
For those applying under the age of 18 (must be at least 14):
- Print and have a parent/guardian complete the Parent/Guardian Consent Form
If you are obtaining hours for the physical therapy, radiology (radiography) or respiratory care programs, please see Department Contacts page for additional information. For those obtaining observation hours for physical therapy, print the Record of Observation Hours form and take to each location to be signed-off on at each location you observe. To schedule observation time(s) in all other areas, please contact the Guest Resources office at 731-541-6153.
On the scheduled date/time, please take all completed documentation with you to the West Tennessee Healthcare location you plan to observe. There you will be given a visitor pass (name tag). You will need to request additional visitor observation passes from the Guest Resources office if you are observing multiple times/locations.
